December Meditation Challenge

Would you like to start 2016 feeling more grounded, calm, and grateful? Are you longing for more meaning and mindfulness in your life? Join us at the OM place for a 30 day meditation challenge this December! All you need is 10 minutes a day. Each day, we’ll post an easy-to-follow meditation on Instagram and Facebook. This challenge is for everyone! No experience or meditation skills required! This challenge is for you, me, your kids, your family, and your friends. Anyone who wants to learn how to calm their mind can join. All you need is 10 minutes each day!

Have someone take a pic of you meditating and tag us at #theOMplace and #10minutesofOM and #meditationchallenge on social media. After you try each daily meditation, reply in the comments section on Instagram and Facebook about your experience-the good, the bad, and the ugly. We’ll use your comments to drive which meditations we post next!

The 10 Minutes of OM Challenge starts Tuesday, December 1 and runs all month (we’ll even let you skip Christmas Day, though we’re betting by then you won’t want to)!  Each yoga class at the OM place will incorporate 10 minutes of mindfulness meditation all month long!

BBQ shrimp

Barbecue Shrimp

This dish has become a holiday party staple at our house. Shannon Phelps gave it to Andra and Andra gave it to me. It’s easy, quick, and always a hit. Use 1/2 lb. of shrimp per person.

  • 4 lb. unpeeled fresh shrimp (the “Gulf” at Kroger, not farm-raised)
  • 1/2 c. salted butter
  • 1/2 c. olive oil
  • 1/4 c. chili oil
  • 1/4 c. worcestershire
  • 2 lemons, sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 T. creole seasoning
  • 2 T. lemon juice
  • 1 T. chopped parsley
  • 3 T. hot sauce
  • 1 t. paprika
  • 1 t. oregano
  • 1 t. ground red pepper
  • french bread to dip

Spread shrimp in a foil-lined broiler pan (makes clean-up a cinch)! Combine all ingredients (except for bread) in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until butter melts, and pour over shrimp. Cover and chill 2 hours (I never do this: Andra taught me you can just pour over thawed shrimp and bake immediately, but the original recipe says marinate for 2 hours). Bake, uncovered, at 400 degrees about 20 minutes (or until the shrimp are done). Serve with bread.
